Deer are on the move in our area and motorists should be very cautious while driving not only on the rural roads and highways, but also in town. There have been a number of deer struck by vehicles in and around Stanfield in the last couple of weeks and our officers have seen quite a few deer on the roadways especially after dark.

Remember to scan the roadway and shoulders as far ahead as possible and watch for the glint of eyes reflecting in your headlights. Most importantly though, reduce your speed to give yourself time to react to avoid a collision.

Following a ten month investigation the Stanfield Police Department obtained a felony arrest warrant for Stanfield resident Tony Ray Aldridge for a charge of incest. The investigation stemmed from reports that a child had been born of an incestuous relationship and involved case workers from the Department of Social Services. Both the mother and child are now in the custody of DSS.

During the investigation, the Stanly County Sheriff's Office was brought in when it was discovered that Mr. Aldridge, a convicted sex offender, was in violation of the terms of the sex offender registry. The Sheriff's Office obtained it's own warrants on charges related to the registry violations.

At 8:20 am this morning, a raid was conducted on the residence located at 236 Oak St. in Stanfield to serve the arrest warrants and a search warrant in reference to these charges. While searching the residence we located a number of firearms in the home as well as a clandestine lab used for the manufacture of methamphetamine in an outbuilding behind the home.

The scene was secured and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation was called in to dismantle the lab.

Mr. Aldridge is being held under $250,000 secured bond at the Stanly County Jail for the following charges: Incest, Fail to Notify the Sheriff's Office of Change of Address for the Sex Offender Registry, Fail to Notify the Sheriff's Office of Online Identifier by Convicted Sex Offender and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. Charges related to the meth lab are pending.

In addition to Mr. Aldridge, two other residents of the home now face charges relating to the manufacture of methamphetamine. Carol Aldridge Gates and Matthew Lee Kiddey were charged with Possession with Intent to Manufacture, Sell or Deliver Methamphetamine or Methamphetamine Precursor and with Maintaining a Dwelling for the Storage or Sale of a Controlled Substance. They are being held at the Stanly County Jail under a secured bond of $25,000 each.
